Need Help with Survivability
I continue to work through my first life on a level 18 Rogue. Even though I run 'easy' quests on Normal or Hard, often well above level, I simply cannot survive. For example, I just ran Blockade Buster, a level 13 quest, on Hard. During the course of the battle my thief was hit with Disintegrate for 283 points of damage. Though near full health, she was instantly ******. Moments later she received a Resurrection, then a Heal back to full health, then fought for a few seconds, then was hit with Disintegrate again, this time for 265 points of damage and another instant ****. This happened three times just today.
My thief has 283 hit points and often starts with more from spells like Aid and Super Heroism. She has Str 14, Dex 25, Con 20, Int 19, Wis 16, Cha 16, AC 43, Dodge 6%, Fort Save 18, Reflex Save 27, Will Save 16, 100% Fortification, and ***** Block always enabled. She runs with 10 points of elemental resistance from Guild sources, 30 points of cold resistance from White Dragonscale Armor, 30 points of elemental resistance from spells as needed, Stoneskin, Protection from Evil, and Blur.
What am I doing wrong? I do not have trouble in most fights, but every so often s spell caster with gigantic hit points annihilates my character. Is there some counter to these things? I constantly see people claiming to run Elite quests at level without ever dying. How is this possible? I am not just standing in front of spell casters and taking it. I attack them first, flank them, get on their backs, use Deception, use Bluff, Trip, Sunder, carry a Resist +6 item, and even so they regularly manage to land these massive damage spells.
Thank you for your help! :)
I was really hoping this would be a fun role playing game, where I could enjoy the development of my character for a long time to come, but the constant deaths and 'video game' mechanics are wearing me down. It reminds me of the DMs I played with who were on a power trip and just wanted to **** all the characters. I am starting to think this is the wrong game for me.
